What we know about the benefits of using your strengths more

Research provides overwhelming  evidence that people with higher strengths use experience many benefits; increased happiness, higher levels of energy and vitality, less stress, better goal achievement and faster development, to name just a few.

In the organisational context the benefits are striking. A study that examined “Flourishing in New Zealand workers” found that high strengths use increases the odds of flourishing at work 18 times (Hone et al., 2015)! Other studies demonstrated that a strengths based approach increases performance by 36.4% and that people that use their strengths are 6 times more engaged at work.

I work with individuals and teams to help them discover, unlock and apply their strengths using a leading edge strengths assessment tool that has taking things to a new level.

A strengths assessment leads to different awareness of self and decisions when compared with other assessments I’ve done. I found it helped me to focus on doing more of the things that energise me and it challenged me to build on under-utilised strengths. Other assessments encourage you to adopt behaviours or attitudes that don’t come naturally, so you can adjust the way that different people perceive and respond to you. This might help in some situations but doesn’t seem very authentic.

But what exactly is a strength?

Despite the overwhelming benefits, only one in three people can say what their strengths are and of these, one in three people, the vast majority miss what strengths are really about and as such are unable to tap into the many benefits of strengths based living!

Most people state that a strengths is something that your are good at. Well, only half a point for that answer. Another crucially important dimension is what makes the world go around: ENERGY! So a strengths is something that you are good at and get a load of energy from when using the strength. It generates what we call a state of flow. Where time stops and you become fully emerged in the moment and feel completely energised during and after.

How can I start adopting a strengths based approach?

Easy! You take an online assessment (which takes about 30 minutes), I analyse your strengths profile and we sit down for a 1.5 hour debrief session and you walk away with new and valuable insights you didn't have before! You will have clear initial strengths based actions to enhance your well-being, reduce stress, increase your energy and vitality and generate positive change for yourself.

Your investment for a strengths assessment and debrief is $395+GST. This covers everything; the online assessment, your Expert Strengths Profile report, my detailed analysis of your strengths profile and our 1.5 hour face-to-face or virtual (via Zoom) debrief session.

The best investment you can make is an investment in yourself, echoed so well by a recent client: "Taking the strengths profile assessment & debrief with Erik was the best one and half hour I have spent in the last year!"

What about teams taking a strengths based approach?

Well, the research is again hard to argue with and provides ample evidence of teams' increasing performance and productivity when they take a strengths based team approach.

“Our data shows that simply learning their strengths makes employees 7.8% more productive, and teams that focus on strengths every day have 12.5% greater productivity.” – Gallup research presented in a business journal article, “How Employees' Strengths Make Your Company Stronger“ by Sorenson (2014)

The Strengths Profile tool provides a hugely insightful team profile, which it generates on the basis of individual team members' Expert Profiles. One of the insights it provides is clarity on the team's strengths distribution as shown below. Download a sample Team profile to explore all the information that would be available to your team. An optional Managers Insights report provides rich insights into the strengths of every team member and powerful strategies for enhancing your staff and team performance by taking a strengths based approach.
